Is there a way I could make this easier?

I struggled to write my last newsletter of the year, so it was late.

I convinced myself it had to say something profound, for it to be memorable, or in someway shinier than the 11 that came before it this year.

How typical, to put an unnecessary layer of pressure or expectation on myself! Do you do that too?

I read something on Instagram this week which struck a chord. It said “December is for soft endings and gentle beginnings ~ closing the year with intention, not exhaustion.”

I felt myself exhale and my shoulders drop as I read it.

And then I remembered.

I haven’t achieved everything I set out to this year. There is still so much to do.

My list is growing longer, not shorter. I’m giving more, not less.

But I’m craving time and space, windows to reflect and windows to daydream.

I feel torn between what I need to do and what I want to do. Ready to close out the year but not ready for the new one.

Is there a way I could make this easier?

Is there a way I could celebrate myself a little more?

Can I learn to pause, take a break, rest or play, even when I’m not yet where I want to be?

Can I make time to stretch, move, sweat and breathe?

Can I sit, fully present, and enjoy a delicious and nourishing meal I have made myself with love?

Can I lose myself in a good book for hours, undistracted, and marvel at the pages as I turn them?

Can I give myself the grace of some silent tears at a yoga class, so I arrive home smiling for my children?

Even if I’m unsure of what is to come?

Can you?
